+Hi everyone! I've been messing around with GIMP lately and after looking at a couple tutorials, I decided to try to make some icons ^.^ I really don't have a proper method of making icons...I mostly just mess around with textures and brushes, lol. But if anyone knows any more sites that have wonderful icon tutorials, please let me know! I really want to add text with effects on my icons but I'm not quite sure how to do that :/ Also any constructive criticisms are great! I'm always looking for ways to improve. Anyway, onto the content!

If you want to add text in GIMP, there's a big, bold "A" in the Toolbox (the thin window that always opens to one side of the main window and that causes the whole program to close if you close it). Just click on that and create a text square anywhere on the image (you can always move it later). As with all of those buttons, you can modify things down in the Tool Options tab (the box that makes up the lower half of the Toolbox). I'm new to GIMP as well, so I'm pretty sure there must be some text modification secrets that I don't know about, but that seems to be the basic way of doing it. Hope that helps. :)
