I remembered that I had a few FF things in my mostly unused writing journal! They're both ancient and totally unbeta'd, but I hope they're not that bad.

Title: Untitled
Summary: Rinoa's thoughts and feelings at the end of the game, well at least it's my take on how things might be if you looked into her head.
Characters/Pairings: Squall/Rinoa
Word count: 579
Rating/warnings: PG? Spoilers for the ending scene of VIII?

So much had happened since she'd started this journey, so many incredible things that still felt more like a dream than reality. Rinoa stared out at the slowly darkening sky as she thought back over everything that had happened starting from the day she'd gotten help sneaking into that SeeD ball. It felt like a lifetime ago though she knew it really hadn't been all that long in the grand scheme of things.

If someone had told her beforehand just all that she'd see and do, she never would have believed it. Sometimes it was still a little hard to believe: that she'd gone from trying to help a small scale rebellion to an operation that had saved the entire world. Rinoa had lost plenty over the course of this journey but the amount she'd gained more than made up for it all.

Maybe these thoughts might seem a touch too melancholic for someone who was normally always in such a good mood. Really though isn't it natural to feel some hesitation when something comes to a close? There were so many questions that needed answers now, new things that had only barely been brought to light. This, however, wasn't the time to worry about them. This was their night of celebration after all and Rinoa did love a good party.

There was some commotion from the hallway and the dark haired young woman shook her head, a smile spreading as she made her way to see just what her friends were up doing. Everyone was in impossibly high spirits right now and for good reason. Slipping through the crowded hallways, she bantered with some of the students that had crossed her path over the course of their journey. After a while, Rinoa headed out to the balcony for some fresh air and perhaps a little bit of quiet. It was turning out to be a beautiful night after all.

To say that it was a beautiful night that was no lie, if anything it was an understatement. It was a night fitting for celebrating that it was all over. They'd really won! The stars were bright and there was so many of them that Rinoa couldn't help but wonder just how many lifetimes it would take to count them all. Oh! A shooting star, that was something special and she smiled at the memory as she pointed it out to him. Of course Squall was there, she didn't even have to look to know he'd arrived. It was honestly just something she could sense now. Was this the bond of a sorceress with her knight? Maybe one day she'd ask Edea.

"Look, isn't it great Squall?" It must have been great, because the look that he gave her could only be called a smile. That smile, to her, was more beautiful than any star could ever be and she felt her own mouth widen as she smiled even bigger in response. Then there really wasn't much time to think as he tugged her close, hand wrapping around her's possessively. Of all the things he might have done at that moment, she hadn't been prepared for this. Not that she was going to complain, especially when he leaned down and pressed his mouth to hers. Oh no, this wasn't something that she'd be able to find fault with ever (unless it didn't last long enough). Somehow that didn't seem like it was going to be much of an issue.

Title: Fighting Fate (Or why fate isn't always so bad.)
Summary: Tiny little drabble about Rinoa's feelings on fate.
Characters/Pairings: Squall/Rinoa
Word count: 100
Rating/warnings: PG? Spoilers for the ending scene of VIII?

She'd never understood fate as a child. It tended to mow through lives with no remorse and always seemed to leave people in pain. Nothing good ever came of it!

Rinoa had railed against it many times over her life. Losing a mother, watching a town break under a dictator's fist, so many wrongs in the world and all ascribed to fate.

Now, as she watched Squall smile at her for what felt like the first time, she started to change her mind. Then he pulled her close, they kissed, and it was clear. Fate wasn't always bad after all.

I like the drabble - I think you did a nice job of summing up Rinoa's feelings in just 100 words (which is always a challenge, for me!)

Also, mod note: was this written before or after you joined [livejournal.com profile] ff_land? Because I'm afraid that if it was written before you joined, it's ineligible for points.

Really? My usual trouble tends to be getting it cut down to the 100 word limit... I usually end up juuuust those couple of words over and those are always the hardest to cut.

Yeah - I'm sorry they don't count for points, but thank you very much for sharing! I enjoyed them. :)

I loved both stories. The drabble is great and captures Rinoa's character wonderfully, and the ending scene summary dealing with her feelings as well what happened between Squall and Rinoa was just really well-written too. :D
